FSF to lobby for third party accreditation

THE FIRE Sector Federation (FSF) will be submitting feedback to the government this month, which lobbies for the introduction of mandatory third party certification schemes for installers of fire safety products.
The FSF has appointed a legal counsel to help with evidence gathering that it intends to submit to MHCLG, Home Office and the Hackitt Review. This evidence will support the need for third party accreditation schemes for fire protection products and services in to be a statutory requirement of Approved Document B (ADB) and the Regulatory Report (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
FSF vice chair Dennis Davis said: "Standard setting and testing are well organised; inspection and compliance arrangements exist. What is less clear is the effectiveness and transparency of these essential processes. Open comment and questions have already been raised about the adequacy and availability of the skilled resources required and the value and openness of product testing and recording systems.
"The Federation is developing a third party accreditation framework for building products, where we believe evidence already exists of better products, and more effective product marking."
